Appleton, Waupaca, and Clintonville were the only OWLS libraries that are eligible for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Grant. The grant is a sure thing because eligibility is based on poverty levels figured by the Gates Foundation. The libraries may be able to pool the money included in the grant for servers and combine it to buy a bigger server, which would be housed at OWLS. The Library is eligible for a two-computer grant with a total estimated value of $6,790. This includes two Gates library computers at $4,310, an HP Laser Printer at $1,500, an Internal Building Wiring Allowance of $500, a switch-24-port 10/100 at $300, a Network Accessory Kit at $155, and a Spanish keyboard at $25.
Landscaping bids were received from Northridge Landscape Service for $300 and America's Best Lawn Care for $45 per application plus the cost of the fertilizer. Kathy is authorized to investigate the costs further and go with the lowest bid for fertilizing the lawn. Estimates for pruning and replacing shrubs were hard to compare and will be looked into further. Jim Sasse, our custodian, is willing to do some of the work but is limited to 11 hours per week.
Bids for carpet cleaning were received from Service Master and Top to Bottom Cleaning Service, Mark Westphal, proprietor. Service Master had the lowest bid at $780 for the carpets and $195 for the hard floors. They estimate that the carpet will need to be replaced in 2-3 years.
Approval to replace the panic bars on the front doors was given by those present.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:15 p.m. on motion by Dick Koeppen, seconded by Bev Kersten.
A reception honoring Bernice D. Olk for her twenty-five years of service on the Library Board of Trustees was held following the meeting.
Sandy Loberg, Interim Secretary
