at the state level that will affect libraries. No quorum was present. This was
an informational meeting only.
Jerald Schoenike presented a brief summary of the library's long range planning
process. Representative Hundertmark reported that the Governor's budget proposal
reduces state aid for libraries by $2.2 million but at the same time increases
funds for libraries from the Universal Service Fund by $4.2 million. Badgerlink
funding for the statewide database of magazine and newspaper articles would increase
$136,000 from the Universal Service Fund under his proposal. Discussion focused
the proposed tax freeze and the proposed constitutional change in a Taxpayers
Bill of Rights. Concerns were raised about the level of state funding currently
provided for library systems. The Joint Finance Committee is holding hearings
on the budget around the state this month and Representative Hundertmark encouraged
the board to attend or send written testimony to her office. Senator Luther Olsen
is on the Joint Finance Committee and can also be contacted.

Gift & Memorial Account.
A history of the major donations to the Clintonville Public Library was presented.
