Business:
Summer Library Program Report—Children’s Librarian
Diane Raschke gave a detailed report on the summer program, Paws, Claws Scales and Tales. The summer reading program numbers for all the programs went up this year. There was an increase in the special events attendance but there was one more event than last year. One story time slot was added to the summer school story time because the 4K story time was over 80 children. This was much too large for all of them to see. That is why the total of children went up but the average went down.
Diane mentioned how important the Friends of the Library were to the program. They helped to sponsor the special events as well as providing the money for the prizes.
Digitization Workshop
Director Mitchell will be attending a workshop on Digitization and Metadata at the Wisconsin Library Association Annual Conference at the end of October. She hopes this will help to her in digitizing some of the materials in Wisconsin Room to preserve them.
Collection Agency
Director Mitchell distributed an informational packet to the board members about Unique Management Services, a collection agency which works only with libraries. OWLS is working on implementing this program for interested libraries.
Clintonville Library has about $7700. due from all past years. One concern Director Mitchell had was that more staff time would be needed as opposed to none at the present time.
2007 Budget and Salaries
Director Mitchell will be meeting on Monday, the 25th, with the City Finance Committee. The two budgets she will present are the same with the exception of differences in salaries and benefits. One will be a 1.5% raise, the other with a 3% raise. The 2% budget freeze and maintenance of effort were discussed.
Director Mitchell also distributed a list of general magazines that the library currently subscribes to that add up to almost $1000 and alternate lists of newspapers and investment tools. The prices on the list are this year’s figures.
Moved by O’Toole, seconded by Kasel to adjourn at 4:50pm. Motion carried unanimously.
